This week we touched on the comprehension strategy: compare and contrast. We read 3 books from the "Harry the Dirty Dog" series and we used a venn diagram to compare and contrast the different books. The first graders did a great job contributing and filling out our venn diagram!
On Thursday we had our first Art Literacy lesson! The first graders learned about Pop Art and had a chance to create their own. Our classroom windows are now covered with some very colorful crayons that truly POP! A HUGE thank you to Dana for teaching the lesson and to Heather, Cari and Jenn who helped the first grade artists - it would not be possible without you all!
We met with our 4th grade buddies and the fourth graders shared fairy tale stories that they had written. Then the buddies "rolled" their own monsters! To create their monsters, they rolled a die and what they drew depended on what number they rolled. There were some pretty spectacular monsters, and even some monster families! After drawing their monsters, the buddies worked to develop a fairy tale outline about their monsters.
We ended the week with a spooky silhouette art project and some skittle math! It was a sweet way to end the week :)

Ingrid told me she made monsters with her buddies, and I was surprised how well her buddies could draw! Now it makes sense. Ha ha! Lara
