Week 21

Here are some highlights from the week...

Book clubs are coming back! We had to take a break while I completed the individual reading assessments with each student and I am really excited about all of the progress the first graders have made. As we continue to build reading fluency and comprehension, our flexible book clubs will be changing.

We had our math check-in this week and it is incredible how focused all of the first graders were and how hard they all worked. I am really impressed with all of the different strategies they are applying and using to represent their work!

We ended the week with our second Art Literacy lesson! The first graders learned about "Still Lifes" and created their own based on a composition that they created with their table groups. All of the paintings are now hung up in our Room 112 gallery and truly show off the creativity and talent of the first grade artists! A HUGE thank you to all of the parent helpers who made this art lesson and project possible!

Week 20

It was a busy first full week back to school!


We are continuing to add strategies to our Word Detective tool belts. This week we have been focusing on using snap words that we know to help us decode mystery words. Example: If I know the word "out" in a snap, it can help me read the word "about" or "shout." 

We started our How-To writing and it is off to a great start! The students are writing step-by-step directions and doing an awesome job using transition words to help with the structure of their writing. 

The first graders had a chance to share their How-To Build a Snowman books with their fourth grade buddies and then the first and fourth graders got to create their own snowmen in the game "Roll a Snowman!"

The week ended with an amazing assembly. Chata Addy performed on Friday afternoon and it was a wonderful way to end the week! All of Stephenson was up, dancing and singing in the cafeteria!
